Tips for weight

• Weight measures how heavy something is.

• 1 kilogram (kg) = 1000 grams (g).

• Some weighing scales have a digital display - they show the weight, not a measuring scale. If the weight is in kilograms, the number after the decimal point tells you how many grams. For example, 2.5 kg is 2 kg 500 g; 20.1 kg is 20 kg 100 g.

• Some weighing scales have a circular dial. Check where zero is on the scale, and check which way round the numbers go.

• If there are marks on a scale that are not numbered, work out what each division represents.
