Tips for finding information

To find information quickly and easily from books:

  • Use the contents page to see if a book contains the sort of information you are looking for.
  • When you know exactly what information you want, use the index page to look up the topic.

To find information on the Web:

  • Skim-read a web page to see if the site is likely to be relevant.
  • Use menus and links to find the page you need.

In books and on the Web:

  • Scan headings to find the relevant part of the page.
  • Know your alphabet well so that you can use alphabetical order to find your way around A-Z sources of information quickly.
