Articles often give factual information - a recount of an event or a report of an interview. They can be quite formal and may include different people's comments.
Some articles explain the background to events to put the news in context and help us understand what is happening.
Some articles recount funny and/or interesting stories. They may be written in a less formal style than important news.
Some articles don't just tell us the news, they also give an opinion. They may try to persuade us to agree with a particular point of view.
