Reportable accidents
Under RIDDOR (The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995) employers are required to report the following three types of accident:

  • fatal accidents (accidents in which someone dies)
  • accidents that result in a major injury
  • accidents that result in over-3-day injuries.

Reportable diseases
Under RIDDOR, illnesses caused by work are also reportable. These include conditions caused by work activities, such as repetitive strain injuries, some types of poisoning, skin conditions and lung diseases caused by contact with substances in the workplace, and infections such as hepatitis and tuberculosis.
