Tables and charts


• The information in a table is arranged in rows and columns. Rows go across, columns go down.

• In a bar chart, data is shown in bars. Measure the height of each bar against the scale. The scale is divided into equal intervals.

• In a pictogram, symbols represent the data. Each symbol represents the same number or amount. The key tells you what one symbol represents.

• To find information from a bar chart or pictogram, you don't always have to work out the values. Sometimes you can just compare the height of the bars, or compare the number of symbols.
