Working with bar charts

Text description

At level 2, you may have to work things out from a bar chart in the same way as from a table.

Look at this example:

A researcher asks a question about the number of children in families. This chart shows the results for one day.

How many families were included in the survey?

The vertical axis of the chart shows the frequency. Frequency is the number of times something happens or the number of times something is counted.

The number of families is the sum of all the frequencies - the total frequency. Click on the chart to see how to work this out.
