Types of data

Text description

There are two types of numerical data: discrete and continuous.

You can collect discrete data by counting, for example:

  • people at a football match
  • bottles of drink coming off a production line
  • aeroplanes taking off from an airport.

You can collect continuous data by measuring, for example:

  • a person's temperature
  • the weight of a baby
  • the speed of a car.
